Many people have “gummy smiles.” This term simply means that when you smile, a significant amount of your gums show above your upper teeth. Although many people have a gummy smile, excessive gum tissue still tends to look like a characteristic that is outside of what most people consider an ideal smile. You may feel embarrassed when you smile and laugh. If the gum tissue is causing you to suppress your joy in this way, you should consider non-invasive correction with BOTOX®.
BOTOX® has long been used to smooth facial wrinkles, and now experienced cosmetic dentists like Dr. Elisa Mello have been specially trained to administer BOTOX® to improve a smile that shows too much gum tissue.
What to expect during your appointment: Dr. Mello will observe how your facial muscles move as you smile. Then she will administer BOTOX® injections in the area where your nose meets the fold of your cheek (nasolabial fold). You might feel a slight pinch as the injection is administered, but BOTOX® is not painful to most people.
When to expect results: You may notice a subtle change immediately, but it usually takes 3-4 days for your new smile to take shape.
Longevity of your results: These BOTOX® injections typically last about 6 months. After they’ve faded, you can visit Dr. Mello for a re-treatment.
