Charles Gordy, a British Army officer, once remarked, “A smile is an inexpensive way to change your looks.” Therefore, you should be encouraged to smile often. But what if you’re not comfortable smiling, because of the state of your teeth? Unfortunately, we live in a society where most people’s perception of us depends heavily on our appearance. Whether it is a date for two, a social gathering, or even a job interview, people will generally take notice of your appearance first and make a judgment before they even speak to you. Since your smile can be the most eye-catching feature of your face, it’s your smile that will speak volumes! So if you have any insecurity about your smile, your confidence–and thus your general outlook–will also be affected.
The good news is that with the current advancements in cosmetic dentistry, you have a lot of options for improving your smile. Basically, it is now aesthetically and technically possible to select a treatment, or combine a number of treatments, to get exactly the results you will find most pleasing. Depending on your goals, there are lots of ways to improve your smile: for instance, with the aid of Invisalign braces (so-called because, being made of clear plastic, they are “invisible”) to straighten crooked teeth. In addition, using a variety of techniques, chipped and/or broken teeth can be mended. Even missing teeth can be replaced with dental implants, bridges, or dentures (you choose). If your original smile includes gaps between your teeth, they can be reduced by employing orthodontics, aligners, or a variety of braces (in front of, or in back of, the teeth in question). And there’s more: if your smile shows too much gum, surgical or laser gum lifts will reduce it and even it out. Teeth can also be whitened, and stains can be treated with deep cleaning or in-office whitening. Again, you choose!
All this goes to show that your smile is very important, and can be perfected to express the most positive aspects of your personality. There is a definite correlation between a beautiful smile and a person’s self-confidence. While beauty comes in all shapes and sizes, and may be in the eyes of the beholder, your best smile will not only play an important role in your improved self-confidence, but will also help you improve your personal and professional relationships. Knowing there are things you can do that will help you feel more comfortable and self-confident in your own skin is the first step to a better life. That is why you are encouraged to keep your smile healthy and beautiful; making the most of it can help you make the most of life.
We think Charles Gordy would have approved!
